On Thursday (March 24), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spoke out against the promotion of The Kashmir Files in the city.

The BJP MLAs who are demanding that The Kashmir Files be made tax-free in Delhi should upload the film to YouTube and make it available to everyone, according to the Delhi CM.

Anupam Kher, who plays lead role in The Kashmir Files, advised everyone to see the film only in theatres in a tweet a few hours later.

“Ab to dosto #TheKashmirFiles movie hall me hi jaake dekhna,” Anupam tweeted in Hindi on Twitter.

The tweet goes like: “32 saal baad #KashmiriHindus ke dukh ko jaana hai, aap logo ne. Unke saath huye atyachar ko samjha hai. Unke saath sahanubhooti dikhai hai. Lekin jo log is tragedy ka mazaak uda rahe hain, kripya unko apni taakat ka ehsaas karayein. #Shame”

(Now friends, watch The Kashmir Files only within movie theaters. After 32 years, you have now become aware of the suffering of Kashmiri Hindus. You’ve experienced the agony they endured. You’ve conveyed your concern for them. Those who mock this tragedy, however, should be made to feel your strength. #Shame).”

He also uploaded a collage of the film’s stills. In The Kashmir Files, Anupam Kher plays Pushkar Nath Pandit, a Kashmiri Pandit. The film is based on the 1990 Kashmiri Pandit migration and massacres in Jammu & Kashmir.

Throughout his speech, the Delhi CM claimed, “People (BJP) are demanding that the movie should be declared tax-free in Delhi. If you upload it to YouTube, the video will become free and available to everyone. Some individuals are earning crores in the name of Kashmiri Pandits,” he said, “and you (BJP) have been putting movie posters.”
