Vicky Kaushal’s latest outing, “Bad Newz,” has hit a stumbling block after its impressive opening weekend, marking a significant drop in collections on its first Monday. The romantic comedy, which stars Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk alongside Kaushal, managed to earn approximately ₹3.5 crore nett on its fourth day, a stark contrast to its weekend performance.
Initially garnering attention for achieving the third-highest opening weekend of Kaushal’s career with ₹29.5 crore, “Bad Newz” failed to sustain its momentum into the week. The film saw a notable decline from Sunday’s earnings of ₹11.15 crore, with Friday and Saturday also witnessing respectable figures of ₹8.3 crore and ₹10.25 crore, respectively.
The drop in box office collections from the weekend to Monday, while expected, highlights the challenges faced by the film post its strong opening. Despite surpassing the opening day records of Kaushal’s previous hits like “Uri: The Surgical Strike,” directed by Aditya Dhar, and Meghna Gulzar’s “Raazi,” “Bad Newz” struggled to maintain its pace.
Directed by Raj Mehta, “Bad Newz” explores a unique storyline involving heteropaternal superfecundation, a rare reproductive phenomenon where twins share the same mother but have different fathers. Produced by Amritpal Singh Bindra, alongside Apoorva Mehta and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film also features Neha Dhupia in a significant role.
With the film’s total collection now standing at ₹33 crore after Monday’s figures, the industry awaits to see how “Bad Newz” fares in the coming days amidst competitive box office releases. Vicky Kaushal, known for his versatility, is set to appear next in diverse roles in upcoming projects including Laxman Utekar’s period drama “Chhaava” and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Love & War” alongside Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
