Indian archer Abhishek Verma won his first individual World Cup gold in the Archery World Cup Stage three in Paris on 26th July.
Abhishek beat USA’s Kris Schaff in a shoot-off to emerge victorious and win the gold medal. Verma didn’t lose his confidence competing against higher-ranked rival Kris Schaff. After both archers ended with 148 points, the World No. 5 Schaff hit a nine Verma responded with a perfect 10 to seal the tie.
“It was exciting,” Verma said after the win. “I waited for two years to get a competition and finishing with a gold is good for me and my country,” he added. Talking about how he manages the pressure he said such a situation “gives me positive power”. “My heart beat went up so I just calmed myself down,” he stated.
