Period drama ‘Prithviraj’ is one of the most anticipated Hindi films as starring Akshay Kumar, the film will mark Bollywood debut of former Miss World Manushi Chhillar. The movie will reportedly hit the theatres on January 21, 2022.

Akshay shared the first teaser of the film in which he essays the titular role, while Manushi plays the role of his wife and Princess of Kannauj, Sanyogita. The role will mark Manushi’s Bollywood debut after winning the title of Miss World at the global beauty pageant in 2017.

Sharing the teaser Akshay captioned it, “A heroic story about pride and valour. Proud to play Samrat #Prithviraj Chauhan. Celebrate #Prithviraj with #YRF50 only at a big screen near you on 21st January’22.”

Talking about the teaser and film Akshay said “The teaser of Prithviraj captures the soul of the film, the essence of the life of the legendary warrior Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan who knew no fear. This is our tribute to his heroism and his life. The more I read about him, the more I was awed by how he lived and breathed every single second of his glorious life for his country and his values.”

“He is a legend, he is one of the bravest warriors and he is one of the most upright kings that our country has ever seen. We hope that Indians worldwide love our salute to this mighty braveheart. We have tried to present his life story in the most authentic way possible and the film is a homage to his unmatched bravery and courage,” the Sooryavanshi actor adds.

The film is being helmed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in important roles. Dwivedi had earlier revealed that the film’s storyline is based on the epic poem “Prithviraj Raso” by the great poet Chand Bardai.

The film follows the life story of the fearless and mighty King who fought valiantly against Muhammad Ghori.

However, like many other period dramas this film too faced criticism. Earlier, the Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha objected to the name of the movie calling it an insult to the great ruler. the organisation asserted that the film’s title should include the King’s full name – ‘Hindu Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’ or ‘Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan’

An effigy of the superstar was burnt in Chandigarh as the protesters demanded the script to be approved by senior representatives of the Kshatriya Samaj as well asked for a special screening before the release while objectionable and distorted facts must be removed.
