In her recent interview with India Today, Radhika Madan delved into the dynamic on-screen chemistry she shared with Akshay Kumar, despite the noticeable 27-year age gap between them in their latest film Sarfira. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film released on July 12 to positive reviews highlighting their compelling chemistry.
Addressing initial reactions to their pairing, Madan remarked on the shift in perception post-release: “When the film was announced and the trailer dropped, there was chatter about our age difference. Surprisingly, after the release, out of the 42 reviews I read, none mentioned the age gap. Instead, they focused on our cracking chemistry, intense connection, and genuine rapport.”
Madan elaborated on how Sarfira skillfully navigates their characters’ relationship dynamics from the outset: “The film addresses every aspect transparently, starting with the opening scene where the age difference is acknowledged. However, what resonates throughout is Veer and Rani’s profound connection beyond superficial appearances. It’s not about her youthful allure or his mature charm; rather, their bond stems from mutual understanding and shared aspirations.”
Set against the backdrop of India’s burgeoning startup landscape and aviation sector, Sarfira is a Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, which earned accolades at the 2020 National Film Awards. Inspired by the life of Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath, the narrative captures the struggle and triumphs of individuals striving to realize their entrepreneurial dreams amidst societal scrutiny.
Madan concluded by emphasizing the depth of the characters’ attraction in Sarfira: “Their connection arises from seeing themselves reflected in each other’s ambitions and struggles. It’s a narrative that transcends age and appearances, rooted instead in mutual respect and personal integrity.”
With positive feedback pouring in for their performances, Radhika Madan and Akshay Kumar’s collaboration in Sarfira continues to resonate with audiences for its portrayal of love and ambition against all odds.
