New Delhi: Will Smith stormed the Oscars stage and punched comedian Chris Rock in the face for cracking a joke on his wife, the moment went viral and left audiences shocked and wondering whether it was scripted or real.
Rock, while presenting the best documentary award with a short standup routine, had cracked a joke linking Jada Pinkett Smith’s close cropped hair to Demi Moore’s look in the film “G.I. Jane” and indicating she appear in a sequel.
Smith rushed up to Rock and slapped him before returning to his seat with Jada and shouted cuss words, prompting awkward silence and uncertainty in the Dolby Theatre.
Smith shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*g mouth!” The producers were forced to bleep off several seconds of audio from the aired broadcast in the United States.
Jada Pinkett Smith, who is also an actress, struggles from alopecia, and publicly revealed her medical assessment in 2018.
As per The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg, in attendance, a teary eyed Smith intended to be “taken aside and consoled” by Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry during one commercial break.
