Famous singer Daler Mehndi made the news today after being given a two-year prison term in a case of human trafficking that dates back 19 years.
He has reportedly been arrested by the police, according to media reports. The Patiala court handed down the decision on Thursday in a case which dates back to 2003.
It is said that the court also rejected his request for probationary release. In fact, the Punjabi singer is said to have been immediately arrested as per the court’s order.
According to the complainant’s attorney, advocate Gurmeet Singh, singer Daler Mehndi was sentenced to two years in prison in a human trafficking case from 2003.
He was taken into custody by the police. Additionally, the court denied his request for probationary release. It was a review hearing for the 2003 human trafficking conviction of Daler Mehendi, according to a Times Now report.
In 2018, he received a two-year prison sentence. Mehndi, however, was granted bail shortly after the verdict.
Following the filing of a FIR at the Sadar Patiala police station, he was found guilty of violating the Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) sections 406, 420, 120B, 465, 468, and 471 as well as the Indian Passport Act.
According to reports, Daler was arrested by the Patiala police along with his late brother Shamsher Singh and two other individuals.
As per media reports, Daler Mehndi received around 35 similar complaints. The police raided the singer’s office in Connaught Place, New Delhi, and found plenty of evidence against him.
