Music composer and singer, Bappi Lahiri, passed away in Mumbai at the age of 69.

According to Dr. Deepak Namjoshi,  Bappi Lahiri’s treating doctor he  passed away around 11.40 – 11.45 p.m. on Tuesday night and director of CritiCare hospital in Juhu.

The composer had been sick for several weeks and had been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Narendra Modi pays his condolences via tweet, he wrote- “Shri Bappi Lahiri Ji’s music was all encompassing, beautifully expressing diverse emotions. People across generations could relate to his works. His lively nature will be missed by everyone. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Lahiri was best known in India for his role in popularising the sound of disco music.

Known for his success with Bengali films such as Amar Prem, Mandira, Badnam, and Aamar Tumi, among others, he also contributed significantly to the soundtracks of Bollywood films in the 1980s and 1990s (Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Dance Dance, Sharaabi and more)
