In connection with a drug case linked to the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday (23rd June) filed draft charges against actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and others before a special court.

Atul Sarpande, a special public prosecutor, stated that the prosecution continued to bring charges against each and every defendant as set forth in the charge sheet submitted to the court.

The prosecution has asked the court to impeach Rhea and Showik for consuming drugs as well as for obtaining and paying for them on behalf of the late actor Rajput.

According to Sarpande, the court was going to file charges against each defendant. However, it was impossible because some of the accused filed for discharge.

According to what the court has stated, the charges won’t be filed until the discharge pleas have been resolved, he said.

Rhea and Showik were among the defendants who appeared before the court.

The case was posted for hearing on July 12 by special judge V G Raghuwanshi, who hears cases involving the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In the case, Chakraborty was detained in September 2020. Nearly a month after her arrest, the Bombay High Court granted her bail.

Shortly after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, who was discovered hanging in his apartment in the suburb of Bandra on June 14, 2020, the central agency has been looking into the alleged drugs use in the Bollywood and television industries.
