In response to the escalating crisis caused by Cyclone Michaung, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken swift action by instructing the Ministry of Home Affairs to expedite the release of crucial funds. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that a substantial aid package, surpassing ₹900 crore, has been earmarked for Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Under Modi’s directive, the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) has been accelerated, with ₹493.60 crore allocated to Andhra Pradesh and ₹450 crore to Tamil Nadu. Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Singh revealed that the Centre had already disbursed the initial instalment of the same amount to both states.
