“Torrential Overnight Rains Deluge Telangana, More Showers Expected”

Overnight, Telangana experienced an onslaught of extremely heavy rainfall, triggering concerns of potential flooding in concentrated districts. According to reports from the Telangana Development and Planning Society (TGDPS), Mahadevpur in Jayashankar Bhupalapally district recorded a staggering 207 mm of rainfall, marking the highest for the year in the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad issued widespread rainfall alerts, encompassing the state’s capital and several districts. Areas such as Mancherial, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Bhupalapally, Sircilla, and Siddipet have witnessed continuous downpours, with rainfall totals ranging between 100 to 200 mm.

Specifically, Kotapally in Mancherial received 172 mm, Kagaznagar in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad saw 159.3 mm, Mahadevpur 159 mm, and Vemanpally in Mancherial recorded 156 mm of rainfall.

In Hyderabad, neighborhoods like Kukatpally, Patancheru, Quthubullapur, Serilingampally, Malkajgiri, Balanagar, Ramachandrapuram, Maredpally, Uppal, Alwal, Khairtabad, and Shaikpet experienced varying degrees of rainfall, with Hydernagar in Kukatpally reporting 53 mm and Samishguda in Kukatpally 42.8 mm.

Given the severity of the weather, a red alert remains in effect for isolated areas in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mahabubabad, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rains. An orange alert, signifying very heavy rainfall, covers Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Warangal, and Hanamkonda.

A yellow alert has been issued for Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sirsilla, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, and Kamareddy districts, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.

Hyderabad is also under a yellow alert, expecting moderate to heavy showers with occasional intense spells and gusty winds. The IMD advised residents to take precautions, minimize travel, and stay updated with weather forecasts, warning of potential water stagnation and slippery surfaces in low-lying areas and on roads.
