Renowned Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has reportedly gifted his cherished Juhu residence, Prateeksha, to his daughter, Shweta Bachchan. According to Money Control, the transfer was formalized through a gift deed on November 8, accompanied by a stamp duty payment of Rs 50.65 lakh. The sprawling property, nestled within the Vithal Nagar Cooperative Housing Society Ltd, spans two plots with sizes of 890.47 sq m and 674 sq m, respectively. Valued at Rs 50 crore, Prateeksha stands just one kilometer away from Bachchan’s primary residence, Jalsa.
Prateeksha holds sentimental significance as it was the first home purchased by Amitabh Bachchan. Originally shared with his parents, the eminent poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan, the house derived its name from a line in the legendary poet’s work: “Swagat sabke liye yahan par nehin kisike liye Prateeksha.”
During a revealing moment on season 14 of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan shared the origins of the house’s name, quoting his father’s poem. Notably, Prateeksha also served as the venue for the marriage of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
The bond between Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter Shweta is evident, especially on the actor’s birthday. Shweta, on Instagram, commemorated the occasion with joyous snapshots, captioning one set with, “Happy 81st Papa. Big shoes (and hugs) no one can ever manage to fill.” Another set of pictures shared by Shweta conveyed heartfelt wishes, stating, “May you always be surrounded by love.”
This significant gesture by Amitabh Bachchan adds another chapter to the family’s legacy, marking a poignant moment in the history of Prateeksha.
