‘Goa’ resonates with party, alcohol and beach for anyone who has, is or will plan to visit the southern part of India. The touristy state attracts foreigners and natives alike not just through its beaches but also the nightlife and moderately-priced alcohol. Be it the International Film Festival of India or the annual Sunburn music festival, Goa has drawn huge crowds at events. Liquor is always a big part of most of these festivals. However the state has now ruled that alcohol consumption in public would not be permitted during the Goa carnival float parades starting this year.

Goa Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, while releasing the programme schedule for the 2020 Carnival celebrations, made the decree official. “People won’t be allowed to drink (alcohol) on streets while they watch the float parades,” he said. The decision is in line with the state government’s move to ban drinking alcohol in public, which is already in effect.
