Navigating Commuter Perils: The Urgent Need for Designated Bus Halts in Ghaziabad

558

In the bustling city of Ghaziabad, a perilous situation unfolds daily as commuters, particularly women and senior citizens, brave high-speed traffic to catch state buses. The absence of designated bus halts along NH9, one of the city’s busiest routes, forces individuals to jaywalk, putting their lives at risk.

A recent investigation by TOI uncovered the chaotic scenario where buses originating from Anand Vihar ISBT haphazardly halt near UP Gate, Model Town, the CISF cut, Vijay Nagar junction, and Chijarishi to pick up passengers. This reckless practice not only endangers the safety of hundreds but also leads to congestion and disorder on the road.

Adding to the chaos are haphazardly parked autorickshaws, e-rickshaws, illegal hawkers, and food stalls. Ram Singh, a commuter, shared his experience of wanting to board a roadways bus to Amroha for a family wedding but being unsure of where the bus would stop. Resorting to jumping dividers, he joined a crowd hoping the driver would halt nearby.

Questioning the lack of dedicated bus halts in crucial areas like Khora and Indirapuram, Ram Singh emphasized the need for organized infrastructure. Meanwhile, Kumari Sudha, a senior citizen waiting for a bus near Vijay Nagar, stressed the importance of a bus stand along the highway to provide clarity on bus timings, expressing frustration after waiting for an hour without any sign of transportation.

The plea from commuters is clear: Ghaziabad urgently requires well-placed and marked bus halts to ensure the safety and convenience of its residents. Establishing these stops in busy areas like Khora and Indirapuram would not only streamline the flow of traffic but also enhance the overall commuting experience for all.
