Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s portfolio of work demonstrates his willingness to experiment as an actor. So it’s no surprise that the first glimpse of him disguised as a woman in the forthcoming revenge drama Haddi, directed by Akshat Ajay Sharma, has gotten social media buzzing. We were intrigued by his striking new avatar and went out to the actor to learn more about it.
“It’s just been a couple of days,” Nawaz stated in an exclusive interview with Bombay Times. We’ve begun shooting Haddi in Noida. It’s a revenge story. In the film, I will play two characters: a lady and a transgender person. This is a double role with two distinct parts. For over four years, Akshat had this script and wanted to make the film. In AK VS AK and Sacred Games, Akshat served as a second unit director. I’ve known him when he was working with Anurag Kashyap. We’re finally making the movie.”
The actor spends over three hours each day perfecting his feminine appearance, including hair, make-up, and clothing. On a lighter side, he stated, “When my daughter saw me dressed as a lady, she was really angry.” She’s alright now that she knows it’s for a part. After this experience, I have a newfound appreciation for actresses who do this regularly. Itna saara taam jhaam chahiye. Pura sansar leke chalna padta hai hair, make-up, kapde, nails… Now I see why an actress may take longer to exit her vanity vehicle than her male counterpart. It is completely reasonable. “I’ll be more patient now (laughs)!”
