At the recently held Grammy Awards, Priyanka Chopra Jonas wore an ivory Ralph & Russo gown from the couturier’s Spring Couture 2018 Collection. The retro-inspired, embellished outfit had a plunging beaded neckline, an elegantly embroidered train, and tassels on the kaftan-style sleeves and front slit. The plunging neckline gave us a peek into Priyanka’s belly-button piercing. She paired the outfit with statement jewels by Lorraine Schwartz, which included a 45-carat pink and white diamond chandelier earrings and a cocktail ring. As far as her hair and makeup is concerned, she opted for straight hair and a nude makeup look.
Now, as inquisitive fashion enthusiasts, we inquired Ralph & Russo about the price of the dress, and it costs (hold your breath) a whopping £78, 200, which is INR 72,10623.37. Yep, you read that right. We’re thinking about all the things we could buy in this amount, from clothes and jewellery to perhaps a house and luxury a vacation; the list is endless!
While Priyanka was praised for wearing such a risque dress with aplomb and showing off her belly rolls, others criticised her for showing too much skin. In a now-deleted comment, designer Wendell Rodricks said, “The neckline goes all the way from LA to Cuba.” In a recent interview, Priyanka’s mother, Madhu Chopra, came out in defence of her daughter. She said, “I am glad it happened because I feel it made her stronger. She lives life on her own terms as long as she is not harming or hurting anybody. It’s her body she can do what she wants, and she has a beautiful one too. I sent her a saying that said ‘It’s my life’. Whose life am I living, yours or mine? I can do what I want, right? I think that is the philosophy that everybody should follow.”
Her mother further added that the actor had shown her the dress before wearing it to the Grammy Awards. “I loved it. She showed me the sample before she wore it. I thought it was a little risqué but she carried it well and she was one of the best dressed. I am happy about that,” she said. Speaking about the trolls, she said, “Trolls are anonymous people hiding behind computers. They don’t have joy in their lives, I think. They think they get attention because of the bad things they say. They don’t mean to say bad things but they get attention. I don’t give much weight to the trollers.”
