The re-release of Vijay’s blockbuster film Ghilli has achieved a remarkable milestone by crossing the Rs. 20 crore mark in its worldwide box office collections within the first week of its theatrical run. This re-release has now secured its position as the second highest-grossing re-release in India during the 21st century, surpassing the earnings of Sholay 3D (2013) and trailing only behind Titanic 3D (2012).
Ghilli’s impressive performance saw it amassing over Rs. 15 crore in India alone, with an additional Rs. 5.25 crore (USD 625K) contributed from overseas markets. Notably, the film encountered a shortened six-day week in India due to the Tamil Nadu elections, resulting in its debut on Saturday instead of the usual Friday. However, overseas markets largely adhered to the standard Friday release schedule, except for the United Kingdom, where the release was delayed until yesterday.
This significant achievement underscores the enduring popularity and appeal of Ghilli among audiences, even years after its original release. With such resounding success in its re-release, Ghilli continues to captivate fans both domestically and internationally, cementing its status as a timeless classic in Indian cinema.
