In a significant turn of events, Mukesh Dalal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in the Surat Lok Sabha constituency unopposed. The development comes as Gujarat gears up for elections scheduled on May 7.
Gujarat BJP chief CR Paatil took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the news, extending congratulations to Dalal for his uncontested win. “Surat has extended its support by offering the first lotus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congratulations to Surat Lok Sabha candidate Mukeshbhai Dalal for his unopposed election,” Paatil remarked.
The official announcement was made by Returning Officer Sourabh Pardhi, who informed that all eight candidates who initially filed their nominations for the Surat Lok Sabha seat had withdrawn their candidatures. This paved the way for Dalal’s uncontested victory, which will be formally declared soon.
The final withdrawal came from Pyarelal Bharati of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) around 2 pm today, Pardhi confirmed over the phone.
Dalal’s unchallenged triumph underscores the political landscape in Surat and reflects the strong support enjoyed by the BJP in the region. As preparations for the upcoming polls continue, Dalal’s victory sets the tone for BJP’s prospects in the forthcoming elections in Gujarat.
