Chhaya Kadam, renowned for her portrayal of Manju Mai in Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies,’ has graced the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2024 with a heartfelt debut, adorned in her late mother’s cherished saree and nose ring.
Reflecting on this poignant milestone, Chhaya took to Instagram to share her sentiments, dedicating a touching note to her departed mother. Amidst the breathtaking backdrop of the French Riviera, she expressed regret over her unfulfilled dream of taking her mother on a plane ride, yet found solace in bringing her essence to Cannes through her cherished belongings.
In Marathi, she penned, “Mom, my dream of taking you on a plane ride remained unfulfilled….but today, I am satisfied that I brought your saree and nose ring with me on the plane to the Cannes Film Festival. Still, Mom! I wish you were here today to see all this. Love you, Mummy, and miss you a lot.”
In addition to her heartfelt tribute, Chhaya shared a joyous encounter with music maestro AR Rahman at the festival. Expressing her elation at meeting the Oscar-winning composer, she reminisced about their 30-minute conversation while strolling through the streets of France. Capturing the essence of their interaction, she concluded her post with the poignant lyrics of Rahman’s iconic song ‘Yeh Haseen Vadiyan’ from the film ‘Roja,’ signifying the serendipitous beauty of their rendezvous amidst the splendor of Cannes.
