In the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party finds itself in the spotlight as it receives a notice from the income tax department demanding approximately ₹1,823 crore in payment.
Amidst this development, the Congress alleges further pressure from the income tax department, revealing that it received two additional notices on Friday night, following the initial ₹1,800 crore notice received earlier. Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress leader, voiced concerns over what he termed as “tax terrorism,” emphasizing the party’s assertion that it is being targeted.
The party’s claim comes in the wake of the income tax department’s issuance of a notice demanding the payment of approximately ₹1,823 crore, adding to the mounting financial pressure on the Congress.
