Priyanka Chopra has spoken out about the perfume ads that have been criticised for allegedly encouraging rape culture.

Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker, and Sona Mohapatra had previously condemned the advertisement on Twitter.

A large number of social media users were outraged by two advertisements for the perfume brand Layerr Shot, which they claimed attempted to promote sexual violence against women.

Priyanka responded to Richa’s tweet on Twitter. She penned, “Shameful and disgusting. How many levels of clearances did it take for this commercial to be green lit. How many people thought this was ok? I’m so glad that it was called out and now the ministry has taken it down. Appalling!”

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting requested that the videos of the commercials to be removed from Twitter and YouTube’s social media platforms.

The ministry said the videos were “detrimental to the depiction of women in the interest of decency and morality” and violated the Information Technology Act in letters to Twitter and YouTube (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code).

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) also has found the videos to be in violation of its guidelines, according to the ministry, and has asked the advertiser to immediately suspend the advertisement.
