Karthik Subbaraj’s latest directorial venture, “Jigarthanda Double X,” created quite a buzz as one of this year’s Diwali releases. Starring Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah in lead roles, with an ensemble cast including Nimisha Sajayan and Sanchana Natarajan, the film also boasts a musical score by Santhosh Narayanan. As a sequel to the 2014 super hit “Jigarthanda,” which featured Siddharth and Bobby Simha, this film introduced a different storyline while maintaining the essence of gangster drama.
Anticipation for “Jigarthanda Double X” was palpable, with high expectations surrounding its release. Despite predictions suggesting a colossal opening day box office collection of Rs 7.5 crore, the film managed to secure only Rs 1.75 crore on its first day in Tamil Nadu theaters.
Critics and audiences, however, were quick to laud the film’s intriguing storyline, giving it critical acclaim.
At the box office, “Jigarthanda Double X” faced stiff competition from Karthi’s “Japan,” which garnered Rs 2.5 crore on the same day. With Diwali holidays ahead, there’s hope that the film may see an uptick in its box office earnings.
It’s clear that while “Jigarthanda Double X” may have fallen short of its day one expectations, its narrative merits have not gone unnoticed, and there is potential for it to gain momentum during the festive season.
