In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Parineeti Chopra candidly discussed the challenges she faces in Bollywood due to what she perceives as a lackluster PR game and the prevalence of lobbying in the industry.
Following the success of her latest Netflix film, “Amar Singh Chamkila,” where she garnered praise for her portrayal of singer Amarjot Kaur, Chopra reflected on the dynamics of securing roles in Bollywood. She expressed her belief that merit and acting prowess alone are insufficient in securing opportunities, highlighting the importance of socializing within industry circles.
Chopra lamented her absence from the social scene, acknowledging that she does not frequent gatherings where work opportunities are often discussed. She attributed her limited presence in the limelight to her disinterest in attending events solely for networking purposes, emphasizing her preference for being recognized based on her talent and dedication to her craft.
Despite her National Award-winning performance in “Ishaqzaade” a decade ago, Chopra feels that her career trajectory has been hindered by her reluctance to participate in the traditional networking avenues prevalent in Bollywood. She expressed a desire for directors and producers to acknowledge her work and offer opportunities based on her merit rather than her social connections.
Asserting her commitment to breaking the pattern of lobbying in Bollywood, Chopra emphasized the need for equal opportunities and a fair playing field for all actors, irrespective of their affiliations with cliques and camps. She acknowledged that while she may have made missteps in her film choices, her dedication to her craft remains unwavering, and she continues to strive for the right platform to showcase her talent.
In speaking out against the prevailing system of industry networking and lobbying, Parineeti Chopra advocates for a more inclusive and merit-based approach to casting and career advancement in Bollywood.
