Shalini Talwar accuses rapper, husband Yo Yo Honey Singh of domestic violence, demands compensation of ₹20 crore

Indian singer and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh is facing a domestic violence case filed by his wife against him and his family.

Singh’s wife Shalini Talwar has filed the case under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. She has filed a plea in Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court.

The case was listed on 3rd August before Ms Tania Singh, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Tis Hazari Court. Mr Sandeep Kapur, Advocate, Senior Partner Karanjawala & Company, along with Ms. Apoorva Pandey and Mr GG Kashyap were present on behalf of Shalini Talwar.

In the plea, Talwar has also mentioned the names of her mother-in-law Bhupinder Kaur, her father-in-law Sarabjit Singh and singer’s sister Sneha Singh.

Shalini sought protection orders and “other reliefs against the atrocities committed” by her in-laws accusing Singh and her in-laws of subjecting her to numerous incidents of “physical, emotional, mental and verbal abuse.”

Talwar added that after Honey Singh’s career took off, he “was rude and aggressive” towards her. She also mentioned that after the pictures of their wedding ceremony went viral on social media, the rapper “panicked and mercilessly beat her”, as he wanted to “conceal the existence of his marital life.” He beat her accusing her of leaking the photos.

Shalini has also accused her husband of having sexual relationships with multiple women outside their marriage. She claimed that during the shoot of his hit song ‘Brown Rang De’, Singh was sexually involved with one of his female colleagues. On being confronted by Shalini, Honey Singh allegedly threw a liquor bottle at her.

In response to the case the Court has issued notice to Honey Singh for August 28, 2021. Interim orders have been passed in favour of Shalini Talwar restraining Honey Singh from disposing off his jointly owned property, his wife’s Stridhan etc.

Talwar has also sought a compensation of ₹20 crore. She asked the court to direct Honey Singh to pay ₹5 lakh per month for a fully furnished house in a reputed part of Delhi. Shalini has also asked that her stridhan and dowry articles be returned to her.

Honey Singh and Shalini Talwar were childhood sweethearts. They got married knot on January 23, 2011 after dating for almost 10 years. They got married at Delhi’ Sarojini Nagar Gurudwara in the presence of their family and friends.
