In a positive development for nature enthusiasts in Ghaziabad, the state government has granted in-principle approval for a long-awaited 62-acre biodiversity park in the heart of the city, according to officials from the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC).

The proposed park, situated near Mahamaya Stadium, is set to become a vibrant green space, with development estimated to commence next year at a cost of Rs 12 crore, as outlined in a detailed project report (DPR) prepared last year. Notably, its strategic location near the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut rapid rail line and the Red Line metro corridor enhances its accessibility.

Once realized, this biodiversity park is poised to serve as the city’s ecological haven. The DPR envisions the creation of a 2.5-acre pond alongside key features like a mesmerizing rose garden, a garden dedicated to medicinal herbs, and a dedicated children’s park.

Highlighting the biodiversity aspect, a GMC official stated, “Approximately 450 plant species, boasting a variety of fruits and flowers, will adorn the park. Expect a rich tapestry featuring cycas, bamboo, orchids, and medicinal plants. The park will also offer additional amenities such as a cycle track and ample parking space for visitors.”

This significant step toward establishing a green lung within the urban landscape is anticipated to contribute positively to the well-being of the community, fostering an environment where residents can reconnect. The biodiversity park holds the promise of being a cherished retreat for all ages, blending recreational spaces with the preservation of natural beauty.
