Tragic Collision Claims Five Lives on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway

In a devastating incident that unfolded on the early hours of a Saturday morning, a catastrophic head-on collision between a state government bus and an omnibus on the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway has left a grim toll in its wake. At least five individuals have lost their lives, and approximately 60 passengers find themselves battling injuries, all due to this harrowing accident.

The horrific crash resulted in the complete obliteration of the front sections of both vehicles involved. Promptly responding to the distressing scene, the police played a pivotal role by swiftly assisting the wounded passengers, ensuring they received the necessary medical attention. It’s reported that around ten ambulances were deployed to transport the injured to nearby hospitals, demonstrating a concerted effort to alleviate the dire situation.

The initial collision occurred near Chettiyappanur, not far from Vaniyambadi, Tamil Nadu, as a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus, en route from Bengaluru to Chennai, collided head-on with an omnibus traveling in the opposite direction, bound for Bengaluru from Chennai. This catastrophic moment claimed the lives of four individuals, among whom was a woman. The victims were identified as Rithika, a 32-year-old from Guduvanchery, Mohammed Firoz, 37, hailing from Vaniyambadi, SETC bus driver K Elumalai, aged 47, and B Ajith, a 25-year-old from Chittoor. Tragically, the omnibus driver, N Syed, also succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident.

According to a police official, the heart-wrenching accident transpired at approximately 4 am. The SETC bus veered into the median, resulting in a catastrophic collision with the oncoming omnibus, thus setting the stage for this calamitous event.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the injured victims were swiftly transported to receive medical attention. Some were admitted to the Vaniyambadi government hospital in Tirupattur district, while others were taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore.
