Droupadi Murmu address the nation after being sworn in as the 15th President of India, she noted that she was honoured to hold office at a time when India celebrates its 75th Independence Anniversary “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”.

Murmu said that she was the country’s first native-born President. She is the country’s first tribal woman to hold the nation’s highest constitutional position.

As Chief Justice of India N V Ramana administered the oath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other ministers were in attendance.

“I am elated that the nation’s poor, Dalits, oppressed, backward, and indigenous people can look at me as their image. My nomination reflects the dreams and abilities of millions of women,” Draupadi Murmu said.
