Following the successful launch of the 17km priority section of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor in Ghaziabad, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is gearing up for the next phase. Anticipated to start within the coming weeks, trial runs on the 25km stretch connecting Ghaziabad’s Duhai Depot to Meerut (south) are poised to commence.

The overarching 82km RRTS project aims to create a seamless transportation link between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. The priority section, spanning 17km from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot in Ghaziabad, entered passenger operations on October 21, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sources from the NCRTC indicate that the upcoming trials will encompass both trains and infrastructure components, with expectations for them to kick off later this month. The 25km section, traversing from Duhai Depot to Meerut (south), features four major stations – Muradnagar, Modinagar (north), Modinagar (south) in Ghaziabad, and Meerut (south) in Meerut district.

This extended section, passing through significant towns such as Muradnagar, Modinagar, and parts of Meerut, is poised to cater to a diverse demographic of daily passengers. NCRTC officials foresee a substantial ridership from students and office-goers as the corridor progresses, further enhancing regional connectivity and transportation options.
