President Ram Nath Kovind on 8th November conferred the Padma awards. 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri were conferred to the awardees. The list of awardees includes 29 women and one trans person. Meanwhile 16 of the awards have been conferred posthumously.
The Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award of the Republic of India. The award is given for “exceptional and distinguished service”, without distinction of race, occupation, position, or sex.
The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India, the award is given for “distinguished service of a high order…without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex.”
Padma Shri, is the fourth-highest civilian award of the Republic of India. It is awarded to citizens of India in recognition of their distinguished contribution in various spheres of activity including the arts, education, industry, literature, science, sports, medicine, social service and public affairs.
