In a candid revelation, Ranbir Kapoor shares his initial response to the script of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film, ‘Animal.’ Playing an intense and aggressive role, Kapoor discloses that after the director’s narration, he was so overwhelmed that he sought refuge in the bathroom for a good five to six minutes, leaving Vanga in a state of panic.
During an interview with Telugu superstar Nandamuri Balakrishna on ‘Unstoppable with NBK,’ Kapoor recounts the moment, stating, “When Sandeep sir came to narrate the story to me, the title was very different. It was a different title, but when he made me hear the story, I remember I said, ‘Sir, one minute.’ I went to the bathroom and didn’t come out for five minutes.”
Expressing his fear and gratitude, Kapoor admits, “I was so scared to play this part because I felt it was so different from all the characters I have done, and I am also grateful that he was giving me an opportunity to play a part like this. Not many directors see me in roles like this. And outside, he was smoking cigarettes because he was thinking (he was panicking).”
Contrary to Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s expectation, Kapoor ultimately embraced the challenging role. The director, anticipating rejection, found himself in disbelief when Kapoor, after a brief tense moment, affirmed, “You did a good job (with the script), we are doing this.”
Ranbir Kapoor’s contemplative moment in the bathroom stemmed from doubt about his ability to embody the character. “I was looking at myself in the mirror and I really wanted to see if I could see myself like this character because of how he was seeing me. Thankfully, he held my hand through the film and the character, but it was something that I thought I couldn’t do. All credit goes to him,” Kapoor acknowledges.
