Suryakumar Yadav is poised to make his long-awaited comeback for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, with sources revealing that he has received clearance from the National Cricket Academy. According to reports from Cricbuzz, the talented batsman is slated to join the team on April 5, ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
The top-ranked T20I batter last featured in competitive cricket back in December 2023, where he impressed with a century against South Africa in the third T20I. However, his participation was cut short due to a grade 2 ankle tear, necessitating surgery. Subsequently, Suryakumar underwent an operation for a sports hernia, prolonging his recovery process as he underwent rehabilitation at the NCA facility in Bengaluru.
Now, the 33-year-old is set to reunite with the Mumbai Indians squad during their practice session at the Wankhede Stadium. With their next match against the Delhi Capitals scheduled for April 7, team management will assess Suryakumar’s fitness level before making a decision on his involvement.
