On April 11, Apple sent out a fresh alert to iPhone users in India and more than 91 other countries, cautioning them about a potential spyware attack akin to the notorious NSO Group’s Pegasus. This isn’t the first time Apple has issued such a warning; the company typically notifies users when it detects significant breaches on iPhones and other devices.
According to Apple, the notification has been dispatched to targeted users across 92 nations. In total, the company has alerted users in over 150 countries, including India. The alert is disseminated via email and iMessage to the registered email addresses and phone numbers linked to the user’s Apple ID.
The notification informs recipients that Apple has detected an attempt to target them with a mercenary spyware attack aimed at remotely compromising their iPhones associated with their Apple ID. The email explicitly states that the attack is likely directed at the individual recipient due to their identity or occupation.
While the exact number of affected users in India remains unclear, this latest alert underscores the ongoing efforts by Apple to safeguard its users against potential security threats.
