Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have taken the path of surrogacy to have their first child. The actress made the surprise announcement at midnight on a Friday/Saturday and shortly after that, her post was flooded with congratulatory messages.
However, a tweet by Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen has greatly annoyed netizens where she shared her views on surrogacy. She has now defended her controversial tweet by also sharing Priyanka’s old tweets with her.
Author Taslima Nasreen has clarified that her tweets criticizing surrogacy were not directed at Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, who recently welcomed a baby girl through surrogacy.
She had previously criticized the practice as “exploitation of women and the poor”.
"My surrogacy tweets are about my different opinions on surrogacy. Nothing to do with Priyanka-Nick. I love the couple." Nasreen wrote over twitter.
“How do these mothers feel when they get readymade babies through surrogacy? Do they have the same feelings for babies as mothers who give birth to babies?” Taslima had tweeted right after Priyanka’s baby announcement. After receiving strong backlash for allegedly criticizing Priyanka’s decision to opt for surrogacy, Taslima said her tweet had nothing to do with the couple.
“Surrogacy is possible because there are poor women. The rich always want poverty in society for their own good. If you urgently need to raise a child, adopt a homeless person. Children have to inherit yours traits- are just selfish narcissistic ego,” she added.
To show she loves the couple, Taslima unearthed old tweets from PeeCee in which the two had a good exchange of tweets. Have a look:
