The annual global Met Gala bonanza renowned as “the party of the year” came back towards its pre-pandemic plan Monday in New York, with A-listers dressed in “gilded glamour” on the red carpet.
Co-host Blake Lively became one of the first celebrities to amaze with the beaded emblished Versace gown with an outsized satin bow which fluttered to showcase a light blue train.
The actress described the dress as a “homage” to the New York City architecture, including Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, which her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, wore in a brown velvet tuxedo.
Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, was among the first to arrive, and she is in charge of the philanthropic event, which raises thousands of dollars for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The fashionista paired a Chanel gown with a tiara as the fundraising event returned to its usual early May date after the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 event and pushed last year’s edition to the autumn.
The over-the-top costume parade on the carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art was set to feature 400 celebrities from the worlds of music, film, fashion, sports, and more.
The dress code is inspired by the annual exhibit with which the party is held. This year’s theme is “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” which spans the late 1800s to the present day.
