Layer’r Shot’s commercial, which was recently ridiculed for containing gangrape jokes, was turned down by an actor.
Abbas Mirza, Senior Creative Director of digital marketing agency Kinnect, described how his actor friend Saurabh Verma proposed a script change, however when his appeal was denied, he politely declined the offer.
The actor also brought up the issue in a WhatsApp conversation.
It’s been over 3 weeks since the Layer’r Shot ad, which aired on June 4, drew widespread condemnation for promoting ‘rape culture.’
The ad has been eventually pulled from the broadcast media, and the brand issued what many saw as a weak apology.
The debate, however, does not end here.
On June 16, Abbas Mirza, the senior creative director of digital marketing agency Kinnect, shared on LinkedIn how his actor friend Saurabh Verma had turned down the offer to audition for the ads after being approached by a casting agent.
