On Sunday, May 29, unidentified gunmen shot and killed Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in Jawaharke village, Mansa district.

The Punjab Police withdrew security for 424 people, including Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, the day before.

Sidhu Moose Wala ran for Punjab assembly in this year’s election on a Congress ticket from Mansa, but was defeated by AAP candidate Vijay Singla by 63,000 votes. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann recently sacked Vijay Singla over allegations of corruption.

Sidhu Moose Wala sparked a controversy last month when his song “Scapegoat” targeted the Aam Aadmi Party and its supporters. In his song, the singer called AAP supporters “gaddar” (traitor).

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu aka Sidhu Moose Wala was born on June 17, 1993, in the Moose Wala village of Mansa district. Moose Wala’s fan base numbered in the millions, and he was well-known for his rap.

Moose Wala was an electrical engineering graduate. He had studied music in college and had later relocated to Canada.
