In a heartbreaking incident, a 20-year-old dental college student, Astha Sharma, lost her life after reportedly leaping from the terrace of a 22-storey building in a residential complex in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. The young woman, hailing from Vikaspuri in west Delhi, was discovered near a fountain close to one of the towers early on Saturday morning.
CCTV footage revealed Sharma’s presence on the rooftop late Friday night, where she is believed to have taken the fatal plunge, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans-Hindon) Shubham Patel. Sharma, a BDS student at a private college in Ghaziabad, frequented the housing complex to visit her male friend, Rohit Khanna, residing there, as disclosed during the preliminary investigation.
The couple had reportedly been grappling with relationship issues in recent months, shedding light on a possible motive behind the tragic incident. The DCP noted that Sharma’s mother informed the police about her daughter’s ongoing treatment for depression.
Investigations uncovered that Sharma visited Khanna twice on the day of the incident before making her way to the rooftop. The autopsy results indicated severe injuries as the cause of her demise.
While the police have taken a statement from Khanna, an ongoing investigation is underway, with no official complaint filed by the deceased’s parents as of Sunday evening. The community now grapples with the aftermath of this distressing event as authorities seek to piece together the circumstances surrounding Astha Sharma’s untimely death.
