According to health authorities, the infant was admitted to SMCH on April 12, battling the infection with medical intervention. Despite initially showing signs of improvement, the child’s health took a sharp downturn in late April. Subsequent RT-PCR testing confirmed the presence of the H1N1 virus, exacerbating the infant’s already fragile condition.

Describing the situation, a senior doctor at SMCH revealed that the victim’s family rushed him to the hospital in a critical state. While efforts were made to stabilize his condition, the virus ultimately proved fatal, compounded by underlying health issues.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, principal of SMCH, emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that the H1N1 virus exacerbated the child’s existing health concerns. The incident has prompted health authorities in Cachar district to implement precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus and prevent further fatalities.

Dr. Ashutosh Barman, joint director of health for Cachar district, highlighted the rarity of such incidents in the area, underscoring the importance of vigilant monitoring and preventive measures to safeguard public health against infectious diseases like swine flu.
