In a disturbing turn of events, Maharashtra’s Beed and Dharashiv districts have witnessed escalating violence as protests surrounding the Maratha quota issue took a destructive turn. The protests, which have now been banned due to the ongoing unrest, have led to the vandalization of several prominent buildings, including those affiliated with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and a legislator.

Incidents of arson and aggression unfolded yesterday, with Maratha quota protesters setting fire to the house of MLA Prakash Solanke in Beed. Prakash Solanke is aligned with the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the NCP, which recently split from Sharad Pawar’s political outfit.

The office of the Sharad Pawar faction and the Municipal House building in Beed also fell victim to the flames of anger. The situation has grown increasingly tense, prompting authorities to impose similar restrictions in the neighboring Dharashiv district.

These unsettling events highlight the urgency of addressing the Maratha quota issue and ensuring that protests remain peaceful and respectful of the rule of law. The acts of violence have undoubtedly drawn concern and condemnation from various quarters. As authorities grapple with maintaining law and order, it remains to be seen how this situation will unfold in the days to come.
