The trailer for Kartik Aaryan-starrer Pati, Patni Aur Woh has released and is already getting flak on social media for its sexist undertones. Social media users have been calling out one sequence in particular where Kartik tells his friend that if a man requests for sex from his wife he is labelled a bhikari (beggar), if he does not have sex with her, he is an atyachari (cruel man) and if somehow he manages to convince her through “jugaad”, he is branded a balatkari (rapist). Trailer begins with Chintu Tyagi (Kartik Aaryan) lamenting to his friend Aparshakti Khurrana that his father had tricked him into getting married at a young age. He claims to love his wife (Bhumi Pednekar), but when Tapasya (Ananya Panday) steps into his life, his loyalties shift in an instant.

Twitter users have criticised the makers of the film for making light of marital rape, especially considering it still isn’t considered a criminal offence in India.

“No Bollywood you do not get to normalize marital rape !! And to think a man wrote these words & a male star spoke these words in order to elicit laughter from the crowd !! Marital rape is NOT A LAUGHING MATTER. Ridiculous & Shameful.” Wrote one user.  While other said that marital rape is a joke in this country.

Some even pointed out that film is trying to glorify cheating in marriage and said that the remake is mockery of the original film.
