In a move reminiscent of the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar’s jersey No. 10, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to officially retire MS Dhoni’s iconic No. 7 jersey.

Going forward, this number will not be allocated to any other Indian cricketer. Typically, players are given the liberty to choose their preferred jersey number before making their debut for the Indian cricket team. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules, players can select any number between 1 to 100. However, recent reports suggest that the BCCI has instructed young Indian players not to request the No. 7 jersey anymore.
This decision by the BCCI underscores the significance of MS Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket. Dhoni, one of the most successful captains and influential figures in Indian cricket history, has left an indelible mark on the sport. The retirement of his jersey number is a tribute to his stellar career and the impact he has had on the game. With Tendulkar’s No. 10 and now Dhoni’s No. 7 retired, these iconic jersey numbers stand as a symbol of the legends who have graced the cricketing field, leaving an enduring legacy for future generations.
